WHAT TO EXPECT ON SUNDAY
Worship is primarily about God, not us.
Our goal on Sundays is to gather in the presence of the Lord, give him the honor and praise He is due, receive afresh the free gift of His grace, and be sent out into His world on His mission. We will sing, pray, listen to scripture read aloud, hear a sermon, and partake in the sacrament of Holy Communion. Our liturgy, or patter for worship follows the 2019 Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Each person will be handed this book along with an insert to guide us through the service.
What should I wear?
Our clergy wear clerical shirts with a collar and a stole. On certain occasions, clergy will robes called vestments. Everyone else is welcome to wear something appropriate and comfortable. Some of us wear jeans and a t-shirt, while others wear a dress/button up.
Singing
We sing everything from traditional hymns to contemporary Christian music. Though we like a good tune, we aim to choose music that is lyrically rich and composed in such a way that everyone can join in singing God’s praise…rather than listening to a performance.
Communion
If you are baptized and believe in Jesus as your Lord and savior, you are welcome to receive Communion at St. Andrew’s. We use real wine and have gluten free bread available. We practice intinction, which means “dipping” the bread into the cup.
Kids in the Service?
We welcome children of all ages in the service, even if they get a little noisy. We believe this is important for their and our (adult) formation and involve children in our service. However, we also understand a parent’s need for a break, and (Beginning soon) will offer childcare for kids (ages 6 months to 4).
